Germany’s Growing Appeal
Indian travellers are increasingly turning their attention to Germany, and the numbers tell the story. Between January and July 2025, India contributed more than 520,000 overnight stays in Germany, making it one of the top three European destinations for Indians. What makes Germany so attractive is its ability to blend heritage, scenic beauty, and vibrant modern culture into one seamless experience. Whether for leisure or business, Germany’s pull has never been stronger.
Better Connectivity Boosting Travel
A big reason behind this surge is the rapid growth in air connectivity. The number of flights between India and Germany has risen significantly, up by more than a quarter compared to pre-pandemic times. With 26 per cent more options available in 2024 and continued growth in 2025, Indian travellers now find it easier and more convenient to explore Germany. Arrivals from India have already risen by 5.5 per cent compared to last year, and the upward momentum continues.
This rise in footfall has translated into strong economic impact. In 2024, Indian travellers contributed a turnover of EUR 1.1 billion, with an average spend of over EUR 3,000 per trip. These figures prove that Germany is not just attracting visitors, but high-value ones who contribute significantly to its tourism economy.
Beyond Berlin And Munich
Germany’s tourism strategy is not limited to showcasing its most famous cities. The German National Tourist Office has been working on campaigns to highlight hidden gems and lesser-known destinations. From picturesque countryside towns and fairytale castles to local food experiences and art-rich regions, the focus is on offering travellers a taste of authentic Germany beyond brochures and clichés.
Future campaigns are expected to bring Indian celebrities into the picture, capturing their journeys through the country and showcasing Germany as a destination full of discoveries. This creative push is designed to make Indian travellers imagine themselves in those unique experiences and encourage them to see Germany in a new light.
Strong Foundations For The Future
Since opening its India office in 2011, the German National Tourist Office has played a crucial role in building bridges between the two countries. Through research-driven campaigns, innovative digital outreach, and close collaboration with the Indian travel trade, Germany has managed to steadily grow its presence in the Indian market.
Backed by the German National Tourist Board in Frankfurt and supported by 19 representative offices worldwide, the focus remains on boosting Germany’s profile under the campaign theme “Germany–Simply Inspiring.” This positioning not only highlights its tourism appeal but also strengthens its travel industry, much of which is made up of small and medium enterprises.
A Destination On The Rise
For Indian travellers, Germany is now more than just a stopover or a short visit. It has become a complete holiday destination that offers the perfect balance of culture, nature, modernity, and comfort. With air links improving, campaigns tailored to Indian audiences, and an emphasis on authentic travel, Germany is well on its way to becoming India’s favourite European getaway.
