Delhi’s tourism scene is about to get a refreshing twist. The government is planning to introduce the Yamuna Cruise Service by the last week of November, giving both residents and visitors a chance to experience the river like never before. The cruise is part of a broader initiative to revive the Yamuna and transform its banks into vibrant recreational spaces.
A Step Toward River Revival And Tourism
Officials have confirmed that the Yamuna stretch between the Wazirabad barrage near Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur has been developed for the cruise service. The chosen section has relatively better water quality, making it ideal for safe and enjoyable travel. The Delhi Tourism Department is leading the initiative, with infrastructure such as waiting lounges, ticket counters, and passenger facilities being built along the banks.
The project is the result of a joint effort among several key agencies, including the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. Their collaboration highlights the government’s long-term goal of turning the Yamuna into a thriving eco-tourism destination.
The Experience Awaits
The service will begin with a 90-seater boat offering scenic views of the Yamuna’s natural surroundings. Passengers will enjoy snacks and refreshments onboard, turning the cruise into a full-fledged leisure experience. The onboard facilities will focus on comfort and cleanliness, ensuring that tourists enjoy the river in a safe and relaxed environment.
According to senior officials, the initiative is part of the city’s larger plan to create a sustainable model for tourism while raising awareness about the importance of maintaining river ecosystems. The cruise will also serve as an educational experience for those curious about Delhi’s water bodies and their restoration efforts.
A New Delhi Experience
With the Yamuna Cruise Service, Delhi is set to join the ranks of global cities that use river tourism as a gateway to cultural exploration and sustainability. Once operational, the service will offer locals and visitors a serene escape from the city’s rush while showcasing the capital’s evolving commitment to environmental rejuvenation.
