Delhi is about to make sightseeing easier, cooler and greener. In a major push to elevate its tourism experience, the Delhi government is rolling out a brand-new full-day sightseeing service aboard air-conditioned electric buses. Starting on or before August 15, 2025, this initiative is part of a larger vision to offer seamless, comfortable, and sustainable travel options for visitors exploring the capital’s rich cultural landscape.

The project is being executed through a collaboration between the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation and the Delhi Transport Corporation. While similar ideas were floated ahead of the G20 Summit, this version is far more refined and practical. Passengers can now enjoy a single-day itinerary that connects all major historical, cultural and political landmarks, eliminating the hassle of planning transport or navigating local commute systems.

The initial rollout will feature three to four buses from the DEVI fleet, each measuring nine metres and capable of seating around thirty tourists. These will operate as a pilot to assess demand and collect public feedback. Buses will begin and end their journey at the Delhi Tourism office on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, a location that is central and well connected by metro and bus networks.

Among the major stops on the tour are the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Kartavya Path, the Prime Minister’s Museum, the National War Memorial and the Lotus Temple. Each destination will include a halt of at least one hour, giving passengers ample time to explore, take photographs and learn about the sites.

To enhance the cultural experience, every bus will have a trained guide on board. There will also be a multilingual audio system offering commentary in Hindi, English, Tamil, Marathi and other languages, making the tour inclusive for both domestic and international travellers.

The pricing has been kept affordable. Tickets are expected to cost around five hundred rupees for adults and three hundred for children between the ages of six and twelve. Kids under six can ride for free. This pricing is meant to keep the service accessible for families and student groups, encouraging educational tours and spontaneous getaways.

Beyond the tour experience, this move ties into Delhi’s broader environmental strategy. The capital has already deployed over one thousand seven hundred electric buses as of mid-2025, with plans to scale up to more than three thousand by year-end. This makes Delhi home to the largest electric bus fleet in the country. The sightseeing service fits squarely into this larger narrative, promoting clean transport while showcasing the city’s heritage.

Special branding will also be part of the bus design to make these sightseeing buses visually distinct. Officials believe this visual identity will help position Delhi as a forward-looking, tourist-friendly destination. Feedback from this trial run will be closely monitored, and if successful, new circuits could be introduced. Future plans include food trails, museum circuits, and even shopping tours connecting old markets and modern hubs.

The introduction of this service offers multiple benefits. Visitors get to experience heritage, culture, architecture and cuisine in a single curated journey without worrying about transport logistics. It also makes tourism more accessible for those who may be visiting Delhi for just a day or two and want to make the most of their time.

With its blend of comfort, convenience and sustainability, the electric AC bus tour is a step forward in reshaping how people explore Delhi. Whether you are a tourist seeing the capital for the first time or a resident looking to reconnect with your city, this new offering is set to make urban exploration easier than ever.
